No frills Budget Airline Flight News Update
There seems to be a lot in the news about low cost airlines at the moment so I’ve given you a roundup of the latest news on no frills/budget airline flights:
Monarch: Monarch airlines is re-positioning itself as a scheduled airline instead of package holidays (although still available). With this decision Monarch have scrapped Debit card fees on bookings, something that has irritated many customers of budget airlines for years with Ryanair card charges often being highlighted in the news in particular. There will still be a charge for credit card bookings but at a flat rate of £10 regardless of the price of the booking/no.of passengers.
Easyjet: Easyjet is to launch new services from Southen Airport from April 2012 with 70 flights a week to approx ten different European destinations. Tickets will go on sale end of July. It will be Easyjet’s 11th UK base. Easy jet also introduced Flexi-fares last week – meaning customers can now make unlimited data changes to their booking and change the date of their flights up to two hours before the scheduled departure time. The flexi fare ticket will also give customers speedy boarding, no booking fees and checked in hold bag inclusive of the price (no extra cost!).
Ryanair: Ryanair has launched two new Leeds Bradford routes to and from Lithuania and Latvia. Unfortunately the airline was also critisised in the press this week and on twitter by celeb Lily Allen who complained on twitter about charges she had to pay to print off her boarding pass.
Infant Seat costs on low cost airlines have also been in the news today and this week with latest research showing that taking your baby with you can actually cost twice as much as booking an extra adult seat on a no frills plane. This is because of fixed fee charges for infants on flights with the budget airlines. However, bmi baby and easyjet have said they will allow you to book your infant into an adult seat and pay the adult rate if the price is less than the infant flight price. Infants under the age of 2 must be strapped onto an adult’s lap during take off and landing by law.
