Marbella Puerto Banus Beach Clubs – Nikki Beach, Buddha Beach and Ocean Beach.

On a recent trip to Marbella for a hen do we booked into and visited one of the beach clubs, Buddha Beach, in Puerto Banus.  There are a few beach clubs to choose from in Marbella, although the three main ones prove most popular and are frequented by the beautiful and tanned people visiting Marbella, plus hen do’s, stag do’s and general holidaymakers.
If the word ‘beach club’ conjours up an image of sunbeds on a beach, think again.  This is Marbella remember!  The beach clubs in Marbella are pristine, well designed ‘clubs’ situated mainly around a central pool, with white sunbeds ranging from single to group beds.  Food is on offer in different forms depending on which one you choose to visit and music and even live music is constantly playing.  Wearing your best swimming costume/bikini and making sure you look effortlessly casual is the order of the day here.

Nikki Beach:
With white sand imported from Miami, Nikki Beach is probably the most well known of the beach clubs in Marbella.

Nikki Beach itself is a well known international brand which started as a concept in Miami and has now spread across the globe to 9 different locations including Marbella.  In its own words Nikki beach is “the ultimate beach club concept that brings dining, fashion, music and entertainment together earning itself, as quoted by the London Observer, the undisputed reputation as being the “The Sexiest Place on Earth”.  Expect to sip champagne, cocktails and eat fine food against a backdrop of mood enhancing music all day, surrounded by ‘gorgeous’ people.  On Sundays you can even enjoy being sprayed with Champagne as part of the action!

Nikki Beach is without doubt the original Marbella beach club and leads the way with events, ambience and pure class.  Expect to pay more than the other beach clubs here for the pleasure of this experience though.  If you do visit look out for Nikki Beach’s signature teepee.  If you like people watching, especially rich and famous people, this is the beach club to go in Marbella. Buddha Beach:

A much smaller beach club than Nikki Beach, Buddha Beach is marketed as a ’boutique’ beach club in Marbella. It is where ‘East meets West’ with flavours of the orient combined with the sunshine lifestyle in Marbella.  The beds are arranged around a central pool, with the choice of single deck beds, group deck beds for ‘lounging’ and then four poster beds and deck beds adjacent to a jacuzzi area.  The prices increase as the deck beds get nicer! However, Buddha beach is generally less expensive than Nikki Beach.

On a Sunday, which is when we visited, Buddha beach has an ‘all day brunch’ option to choose from.  Unfortunately although I emailed to pre-book a table (there were 8 of us) Buddha beach didn’t respond and therefore we didn’t get a table.  Instead we ordered food to eat on our sunloungers, which although a shame, was nice food.  As this beach club is smaller I’d definately recommend you call/email and pre-book if there’s a large group of you to avoid disappointment.  Another item to note – don’t expect to get a towel each if you book a deck bed (for 4-6 people), you’ll only get two/three towels so if there are 6 of you you’ll need to bring or otherwise hire towels.  Unfortunately this is not made clear on their ‘bed’ menu and is a bit misleading to be honest.

buddha beach musicians and dancing

Whilst at Buddha Beach club we were entertained not only by the people-watching but by the fantastic live music from a handful of talented musicians playing a whole variety of instruments, who played whilst walking around the pool or standing on various stages around the pool.
They were often accompanied by dancers in bright pink tutus which added to the Summer vibe.  There are many events on at the beach club over the Summer – click here to view the Buddha Beach website.

Ocean Beach:
On the same stretch of sand as Buddha Beach but nearer to Puerto Banus harbour, Ocean Beach is a lively beach club inhabited by a young crowd.  I walked past Ocean Club on the way back along the beach from Buddha Beach club to get a taxi and it looked much larger, livlier and louder than the smallish Buddha Beach.  According to a

local source who works in Marbella, Ocean Club is generally visited by a younger crowd (by younger I mean under 30!) and is a livelier atmosphere than Buddha beach’s relaxed vibe.  In fact it does promote itself as one of Europe’s largest beach side venues with one of the largest pools which forms the centre of the beach club focus.  Food here is Belgian fused with French and Meditterranean influences, plus Asian foods and homemade desserts!  There’s a champagne party every month and plenty of events to keep you occupied if you visit Ocean Club in Puerto Banus, Marbella.

Beach Clubs in Marbella:
Key ingredients for a great time at a beach club in Marbella seem to be Champagne, beautiful people, georgous bikini’s, Cocktails, Food, Sun, Music and of course more Champagne!  You shouldn’t go to Marbella without experiencing one of them, it was a great way to spend a lazy Sunday and can even be a great way to spend a lively Saturday or Friday, day or night!  Hopefully I’ve given you a vague idea of what to expect….. so make sure you enjoy and if you do visit one let me know what you thought!

p.s. Ladies, don’t forget your high heels for around the pool!
