Hotel Review: Club Resort Select Maris, Datca Peninsula, Turkey
Club Resort Select Maris, Datca Peninsula, Marmaris, Turkey
5*Full Board Plus - October 2010

Overview: This amazing hotel is situated on the Datca peninsua, built into the cliffside directly on the beach. It is an ideal hotel for those wanting to get away from it all, being 2 hours at least from the airport and 35km from Marmaris. Indeed it is ‘in the middle of nowhere’ but is so idyllic with its wonderful beaches and amazing views out to sea, it’s a great hideaway in which to relax and unwind.
When we stayed: I visited in the October half term holidays last year and thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Considering we weren’t planning to stay at this hotel originally, it was a pleasant surprise (the hotel we had previously chosen unfortunately had an outbreak of norovirus the week we arrived!). The hotel, considering it had at least 4-5 busloads of holidaymakers including many with young children, was very accommodating and the staff were very helpful and coped very well. Unfortunately those with young families didn’t find much to do here – it’s not really geared up for young families, instead I’d recommend it for couples or families with older children (ours were 12 and 13 and they loved it).

Location:
The location has a bearing on my previous comment about it not being ideal for young children. Although the hotel is stunning and set against an amazing backdrop of beautifu; rugged coastline (it really is beautiful) it is very far from any towns/villages so you are reliant on the hotel for things to do. This is fine for someone like me who is happy to chill and relax on the beach/in the spa/ read a book on the sunlounger for a week’s rest but you’d struggle with kids to keep them entertained. We ended up taking a couple of days out to visit the Dalyan River and some mudbaths to get a few days out. If you enjoy watersports though the hotel has a dedicated jetty and beach for watersports although I think there’s an extra charge on top of your all inclusive.
Accommodation: The rooms all have balconies and look out over the picturesque bay that the hotel is situated in. The scenery and views are beautiful especially during sunset and sunrise. Our rooms were clean, well kept and very nice. One of the nicer hotel rooms I have stayed in!!
Facilities: The hotel has a number of pools which overlook the cliff that the

hotel is perched on, plus there are a number of beaches (5 in all I think) each offering different things to do (including watersports). The hotel supplies a buggy with a driver that will drive you to any one of these beaches if you so wish or you can be relatively energetic and walk/take the funicular down the cliff to the water’s edge. The beaches are lovely and especially nice if the weather is good is the option of eating a bbq lunch (the hotel is all inclusive) on the beach each day. The spa situated inside the hotel offered various treatments – I am told by other members of my party that they were lovely and although the indoor pool was a bit on the small side but this wouldn’t affect you unless it was raining (which it did on a couple of days while we were there . Apart from that it was fantastic weather).
Food: The food and hospitailty at the hotel was good, with a wide range of foods and courses to choose from. Desserts seemed to be a speciality here and we definately tried most of them between us! As a vegetarian I struggled a bit on the main course, which to be honest I’ve come to expect when abroad, but the copious amounts of salad I ate as a result made me feel lss guilty about the chocolate profiteroles for dessert
Summary: Would I recommend this hotel? Yes I would. Considering I hadn’t planned to go there as we were moved there by the holiday company I was pleasantly surprised at the level of hospitalility, the standard of the hotel and helpfulness of the staff. All of us thoroughly enjoyed our stay there including the kids. It’s not a lively hotel, they do put on different entertainment each night plus a disco but it’s not the talk of the town. Not bad though and the entertainment staff definately put their back into it and work very hard. For a bit of peace and quiet this hotel more than does the job. If you want to get away from it all on a holiday retreat that’s not too far away then I’d suggest this hotel.
